Patricia Regan Argiro
ABOUT THE POET
For 21 years, Patricia Regan Argiro (1934-2001) earned her living as a reporter, photographer, columnist and Associate Editor for Hudson Valley Newspapers, Inc. in New York State. Her weekly column, Branching, was a reader’s favorite. Her extensive freelance writing included, for several years, monthly features for SCAN, a publication devoted to the idea that older citizens are a dynamic, creative population.
Her poetry and prose have appeared in the periodicals Idiom, Echoes, The Plough, Intaglio, and in the anthology Lyrical Iowa 1997. Her first book of poems, Spheres, was published in 1979. She has produced four artist’s books combining her poetry with art work. In these books, Illumination, Pranam, A Rite of Passage, and Foundations, she utilized skills—papermaking, silkscreen, drawing, letterpress, book design, and bookbinding—honed at Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale, NY.
She has given many poetry readings and lectures at SUNY, New Pfaltz, the Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands, Mount St. Mary’s College in Newburgh, City College in New York City, and MIU in Fairfield, Iowa. Her exhibit of art works at Unison Learning Center in New Pfaltz opened with a poetry reading sponsored by Poets and Writers, New York City.
