Ken Chawkin

ABOUT THE POET

Ken Chawkin draws his inspiration from the underlying liveliness of nature and feels that the creative process is a subtle collaboration between the two. He submitted his first poem, ODE TO THE ARTIST Sketching Lotus Pads at Round Prairie Park, to Sparrowgrass Poetry Forum and won their 1989 Distinguished Poet Award. That poem and its acknowledgement gave him the encouragement and confidence to keep on writing.
Ken also realizes that the real reward comes from participating in the creative process itself when he experiences the thrill that accompanies the mystery of creation as it unfolds and completes itself in a poem. Of course having your poems published also brings a special kind of satisfaction. This short contribution was taken from a collection of poems written over the last 20 years.
Ken earned a BA in English from Loyola College in Montreal, Canada in 1971, and two MA degrees, one in Education in 1986 from MIU, Maharishi International University, and Maharishi Vedic Science in 2006 from Maharishi University of Management, M.U.M.
Ken has taught the Transcendental Meditation (TM) Program, was a Sales Rep, a Maharishi Ayurveda Health Technician, a Park Caretaker, and a Reading and Writing Facilitator. Currently a publicist for M.U.M., Ken has written articles on TM and Consciousness-Based Education, and assisted other writers, editors, and film and television producers with their news stories and documentary films. He is also the proud father of two wonderful children, Nathanael and Shara. Throughout it all, Ken remains a poet at heart, and continues to transform his life into poetry.

    Hi Ken,

Thank you for putting TEG on your blog. Wow, I didn’t know there were so many possibilities to publicize one’s stuff. I think I’ll create a blog on wordpress soon.
By the way, I sold already one book. To someone I don’t know. A TM teacher in CA.
